Hello all,
I am revisiting an old post in the hope that someone can help me. Why does renaming an object inside a root file blow my drawing to bits. All I am doing is adding a letter to the name, but this causes the drawing associated with that object to want to regenerate & when I do, it blows my drawing apart. I guess it is worth mentioning that this renamed object is a multi-object file. It is basically a cylinder which is split in half to create 2 distinct shapes, I then have a few bolts assembled to each half. When I created the drawing, I set up my drawing views, hid the shapes not required to be shown in any given view. When I rename the object & regenerate the drawing, every shape that I had previously hidden, reappears & I have to go through every view hiding them again. This is seriously frustrating! It is also important to mention that I am not making any physical changes to the object, no dimension changes, no adding or deleting of features, I am just adding the letter A to the end of the object file name. Hopefully, someone out there can put an end to my pain & save me a ton of time in the process.
Best regards
John
Hi John, what version are you on?
Cheers - Paul
Hi Paul,
I am using the 2024 version. I know this does not happen in the 2025 version. I managed to get a 30 day evaluation copy & I did some testing. It works as you would expect it to. I rename a file, open the drawing & it regenerates without any issues. I have been working with this software for nearly 2 years now & I continue to be frustrated with it. One of the things that confuses me the most is the lack of response to the questions I ask on this forum. Am I the only one who has these problems? Am I using ZW in a way that is unique to me & therefore the issues I continue to have are unique to me. I find that incredibly hard to believe. Users of this software must make copies of files to create new projects & work on them. Users must copy objects from one root file to another without the new object file falling apart when you replay it. I have notes on my drawings that have a mind of their own, it does not matter where I place them because 5 minutes later they have jumped to some random location. Sometimes the notes turn red in colour, & cannot be set back to my default note colour. Anyway, rant over. I was just trying to make the point that I am beyond surprised that other users of this software don’t appear to have these same issues.
best regards
John
Hi John,
I feel your frustration.
FYI. The forum is not sponsored in anyway by ZW. I understand they have some staff who monitor it but we never get any official feedback of response. Maybe this is company policy but it seems counter intuitive to ignore users if that is so.
So that means it is up to others to respond. Most people are flat out engaged with their work so the forum is not a priority.
Your ZW3D reseller should be your support contact of choice. They all have direct ZW representative to assist with user software problems.
Personally, (search this site for discussion on multi object versus single object), I moved to single object file structure years ago and have never regretted it. Multi object has an inherent flaw.
As to why changing it fails, it would appear to be a bug if it owrks fine in 2025.
Cheers
Thanks for the reply, Paul. This is what I thought. I guess I just have to continue to deal with my ZW issues until my company decides we can upgrade.
best regards
John
HI
I suggest you modify the use of this naming association problem.
